We were very fortunate to have a visit from some members of the local Ceoltas Ceoltoirí society. They visited the school on Tue 14th March where they joined Miss Brannigan in playing and singing a number of traditional Irish songs for the children. It was lovely to hear them play the many different instruments and to celebrate the tradition of Irish music. Thanks to Miss Brannigan for organising this lovely event. Congratulations to Miss Brannigan and all of the Ceoltas Ceoltóirí committee members who have successfully secured the 2018 Fleadh Ceol Festival for Drogheda.
We are looking forward to having Kieran Gallagher of ‘Kada Kaboom Arts’ in to our school to run a six week programme of samba, drumming and percussion for all classes. This programme will provide an opportunity for the children to interact, respond and express themselves through music while learning musical rhythms in a fun way. There will be a performance for parents at the end of the six weeks.
Ciarán Holt continues to teach recorder to all classes each Monday. The children are progressing well through their pieces and will perform a short recital for parents at the end of the school year. Please encourage your child to practice their recorder each night for five minutes. Playing the recorder is a simple way to help your child learn how to read music and how to play music. It develops their musicality and sense of musicianship and often leads to a child becoming interested in taking up another instrument.
