The Daily Mile

Scoil Naomh Treasa is one of 580+ schools in Ireland registered to participate in the Daily Mile initiative. Starting in January 2019, we have had a great response from pupils, parents and teachers. Each day children are awarded a stamp / sticker when they complete the walk - a great record of all the miles they are clocking up!

What is the Daily Mile challenge at Scoil Naomh Treasa?

The Daily Mile is a schools programme designed as a way of children achieving improved health and well-being through daily physical activity. It is also a social activity wherein children walk,  run or jog, at their own pace, for approx 15 minutes with their classmates. Everyone has fun taking part as it is non-competitive, while also building relationships, confidence and resilience.

What is the aim of the programme?

The aim of the programme is to improve not only children’s fitness, but also their concentration levels, mood, behaviour and general wellbeing.

When does it take place?

Each afternoon at 2:25 pm, Monday - Thursday, children from first to sixth class set off on their daily mile challenge by walking the length of the racecourse. We welcome parents to join us on the walk any afternoon they're available.
