Seachtain na Gaeilge

Activities
Seachtain na Gaeilge agus Lá Glas

We celebrated Seachtain na Gaeilge in school during the week of the 11th - 15th March. We encouraged children to speak as much Irish as they could, both in school and at home, even if that meant just using one word of Irish in a sentence. During the week each class learned songs and poems as Gaeilge, and our senior classed enjoyed a "Tráth na gCeist" (table quiz) on the final day.

Michelle Foy our music teacher played a number of Irish tunes on the fiddle and pupils were delighted to sing along to "Óró sé do bheatha 'bhaile" and "Tell me Ma" to name but a few.

In support of the Irish Rugby team, the whole school came together in a big circle to sing "Ireland's Call" in support of their Six Nations final against Scotland. The sang it with gusto!

On Friday 15th March we marked 'Lá Glas' in Scoil Naomh Treasa. Pupils and staff all dressed in green to mark the day and a sea of green could be seen in the school yard! We had a céilí mór where the whole school danced "The Siege of Ennis" - a big thank you to both Mr. McLoughlin and Mr. Moloney for teaching the steps to every class. Some of our Irish dancers in the school also performed a number of Irish dances - check out some of the images below! Finally, each class also performed a poem or song as Gaeilge for the whole school to enjoy.
